Privacy Policy
Last updated October 4, 2026
Leengwa is a place to practise languages by talking with people around the world. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Leengwa, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Leengwa ("we", "us") runs leengwa.com and is responsible for the information described in this policy.
Information we collect
- Account details — your email address and password (stored hashed), or your Google account email and name if you sign in with Google.
- Profile information — display name, username, avatar, country, the languages you speak and are learning, bio, and anything else you choose to add to your profile.
- Content you create — rooms you host, room chat messages, private messages, and files you share in rooms.
- Activity — rooms you join and how long you stay, follows, achievements, ratings, and reports you make or receive. We use this for features like the leaderboard, achievements and room analytics.
- Technical data — basic device and browser information and IP address (and the approximate country it points to), used to keep the service secure and working. This includes a random device identifier your browser stores for us (no personal information in it).
- Messages to us — anything you send through the contact or bug-report forms.
Voice rooms
Voice in rooms is streamed live between participants through our real-time audio provider. We do not record room audio. Anyone in a room can hear you while you are speaking, so please don't share anything you wouldn't want others to hear.
How we use your information
- To run Leengwa: create your account, show your profile, connect you to rooms and deliver messages.
- To keep the community safe: review reports, enforce our Terms, and prevent abuse, spam and fraud. To stop banned users from coming back on new accounts, we link accounts that use the same device identifier, the same email inbox, or the same IP address. An account linked by device or email to a banned account may be banned automatically; a shared IP address is only shown to our moderators for review, since many people can share one.
- To provide paid tiers and the features that come with them.
- To answer your questions and fix bugs you report.
- To send notifications inside the app, such as room reminders and moderation notices.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for third-party advertising.
What other people can see
Your public profile (display name, username, avatar, country, languages, tier, badges and achievements) is visible to other users. Messages you post in a room chat are visible to people in that room. Private messages are visible to you and the person you're talking with.
Like all content on Leengwa, rooms and private messages are stored on our servers, and Leengwa may access them where needed to keep the platform safe, enforce our Terms, or comply with the law.
How long we keep it
- Private messages are deleted automatically after a retention period that depends on the sender's tier (from 2 days on the free tier up to 20 days on the highest tiers). Unfollowing someone removes your message history with them.
- Moderation records (such as warnings and bans), and the device identifiers, IP addresses and email addresses used to link accounts, are kept for as long as needed to keep the community safe.
- The rest of your account data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account in Settings → Account: it is hidden right away and permanently deleted after 30 days (signing in before then cancels the deletion). An account can't be deleted while it is banned. Database backups that may still contain it are overwritten within 14 days after that.
Service providers
We use trusted providers to run Leengwa — for hosting, database and file storage, real-time voice, sign-in with Google, and payment processing. They process data only on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service. Payment card details are handled by our payment processor and never stored by Leengwa.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit most of your profile at any time in Settings.
- You can block users, unfollow people, and delete conversations from your inbox.
- You can delete your account yourself in Settings → Account. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it, by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law.
Security
We protect your data with access controls on our database, encrypted connections, and hashed passwords. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
Leengwa is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please let us know.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make important changes, we'll let you know in the app. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
